Driver arraigned for allegedly stealing N4m minibus

The police in Lagos on Tuesday arraigned a 37-year-old driver,  Afeez Alabi, for allegedly stealing a  Suzuki minibus worth four million Naira.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, is charged with stealing before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court.

He, however, pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecutor, Insp Sunday Bassey, the driver committed the alleged offence on Jan. 5  on Charlie Boy Road, inward Oshodi, Lagos State.

Bassey said that the defendant obtained the bus with registration number AGL936 YF on hire purchase from the complainant, Mr Olayinka Dada, on Jan. 5 at 5.00 a.m.

He said that the defendant agreed to be remitting N10,000 daily to the complainant.

He said the complainant gave N4,000 to the defendant to buy fuel for the vehicle  on the same day.

“By 12 noon that day, the defendant called the complainant to say that the vehicle had been stolen from him along Charlie Boy Road.

The prosecutor said that stealing contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs A. O Daodu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said that the sureties must provide evidence of tax payment.

Daodu adjourned the case until March 16 for mention.
