A newborn baby has been discovered dead inside a bag near a church in Notting Hill, west London, prompting an urgent police appeal to locate the mother.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Talbot Road, Powis Gardens, at 12:46 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25. Despite efforts from paramedics, the infant was declared dead at the scene. The baby’s gender and exact age have not yet been determined.

Superintendent Owen Renowden described the incident as “extremely sad and shocking,” emphasizing that the priority is to find the mother, who may have recently given birth and could need urgent medical care.

“If you are the baby’s mother and are reading this, please come forward to the police or seek medical assistance,” Renowden pleaded. “We are really concerned about your well-being and want to ensure you get the help and support you need.”

Authorities have urged the mother or anyone with information to reach out to the police or visit any hospital or police station. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death are ongoing.
