Trump Unveils ‘Gold Card’ for Wealthy Immigrants’ Stay
U.S. President Donald Trump has introduced a new immigration initiative called the “Gold Card,” offering wealthy foreigners the right to stay in the United States indefinitely in exchange for a $5 million investment.
Speaking aboard Air Force One on Thursday, Trump held up a golden-colored card — featuring his face — and told reporters, “For 5 million dollars, this could be yours.” He also dubbed it the “Trump Card.”
According to the president, the cards are expected to be released within two weeks. Trump initially floated the idea in February as part of his broader immigration reform plans.
The Gold Card appears to be a replacement or rebranding of the EB-5 investor visa program, which grants green cards to foreign nationals who make significant investments in U.S. businesses that create jobs. The new card also reportedly offers a path to citizenship.
The program targets wealthy individuals and those with exceptional skills whose sponsors — whether companies or private parties — are willing to cover the hefty visa fee.
Critics have raised concerns about the message this sends regarding U.S. immigration policy, but Trump has argued it will boost investment and attract high-value talent to the country.
