The Concerned PDP Youth of Gombe State has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to step back from active political contests and instead assume an advisory role in shaping the future of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking during a press conference in Gombe on Thursday, the Chairman of the group, Jamilu Adamu, acknowledged Atiku’s immense contributions to the PDP and Nigeria’s democratic journey, describing him as a respected statesman with a remarkable legacy in the country’s political history.
Adamu emphasized the need for generational renewal within the party, urging the PDP leadership to create more opportunities for younger members to emerge and contribute meaningfully towards rebuilding the party.
“We believe that His Excellency Atiku Abubakar’s experience and wisdom can still benefit the PDP if channelled into mentoring and supporting emerging leaders,” Adamu said.
He clarified that the group’s appeal was not an attack on the former vice president but rather a respectful suggestion aimed at the strategic repositioning of the party.
According to him, the PDP must adopt fresh perspectives and allow younger voices to play a more central role in party affairs.
While reaffirming their commitment to the PDP, Adamu encouraged stakeholders to focus on building a more inclusive, united, and dynamic opposition capable of addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
“We are hopeful that our message will be received in the spirit of progress and dialogue,” he added.
