Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has emphasised the roles of motherhood in ensuring a decent, developed and virile nation.
Aiyedatiwa, on Thursday night in Akure at the 90th birthday celebration of Chief Christianah Ajulo, said that the influence of mothers in the lives of children was beyond calculation.
Chief Ajulo, nee Adedeji, is the mother of Dr Kayode Ajulo, SAN, the state Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General.
According to the governor, no society will survive without mothers who care for them when young and provide that nurturing care essential for their normal development.
“The nurturing and care provided by mothers have a lasting impact on the development of children, influencing their social, emotional and cognitive growth.
“So, the role of mothers in nation-building cannot be over elaborated. Women are often the glue that holds families and communities together, providing stability, guidance and support,” he said.
Aiyedatiwa described the nonagenarian’s birthday as a testament to her resilience, dedication and commitment to her family, community and society at large.
According to him, the celebration of the nonagenarian is not only a tribute to her remarkable life, but also a recognition of the importance of motherhood in the society.
“Her life and legacy serve as an inspiration to us all, reminding us of the critical role that mothers play in shaping the next generation of leaders,” he said.
The governor said that life, resilience and accomplishment typified by Dr Ajulo was what an exemplary parenthood could accomplish in the life of a child.
Also, the Secretary General of Afenifere, Chief Sehinde Arogbofa, in his lecture, said mothers played pivotal role in nurturing future generations of society.
Arogbofa, who spoke on “Motherhood, the Key to Child Development and Nation Building”, said that Mama Ajulo cherished the values of education and human building.
Appreciating the governor and other guests, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General stated that he purposely celebrated the virtues of his mother when she was alive.
“Basically, it’s to celebrate life while you’re alive. That is the message that we should celebrate our parents while they are still alive, not when they are dead and you come with a lot of orchestras,” he said.
He described his mother as woman that feared God a lot, adding that she also dedicated her life to invest in people.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Deputy Gov. Olayide Adelami of Ondo State, Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade, former Secretary to Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, senators and others graced the occasion.
