MTN Nigeria Rebrands Fibre Broadband Service as FibreX
MTN Nigeria, a leading technology company, has officially rebranded its fibre broadband service from MTN Fibre Broadband to FibreX, aiming to deliver next-generation internet solutions across Nigeria.
The announcement was made on Friday by MTN Nigeria’s Chief Broadband Officer, Mr. Egerton Idehen, who said the rebranding reflects the company’s commitment to providing ultra-fast, reliable, and accessible internet services in line with the National Broadband Plan (NBP) 2020–2025.

According to Idehen, the NBP targets 70% broadband penetration by 2025, with minimum internet speeds of 25 Mbps in urban areas and 10 Mbps in rural regions.
“The launch of FibreX reiterates our dedication to supporting Nigeria’s digital transformation journey. By enhancing our infrastructure and services, we aim to bridge the digital divide and foster inclusive growth,” he stated.
FibreX is expected to contribute significantly to the Federal Government’s initiative to expand Nigeria’s fibre optic network from 35,000 km to 125,000 km—adding 90,000 km of national capacity.
Idehen described FibreX as offering ultra-fast, dependable internet connectivity tailored to serve both urban centres and remote communities. Though it still operates on MTN’s Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network, the new brand aims to present a more relatable and emotionally engaging identity.
“The name FibreX was chosen to resonate with customers and reinforce MTN’s position as a leader in delivering premium internet experiences,” he added.
Idehen also highlighted the importance of educating residents in “home-passed” locations—premises that can potentially be connected to FTTH—about the benefits of FibreX.
“As Nigeria advances toward a digitally inclusive future, initiatives like FibreX are essential to closing the digital gap and achieving nationwide connectivity,” he concluded.
