The FBI is investigating a deadly explosion at a fertility clinic in Palm Springs, California, as an act of terrorism, officials confirmed.

The blast, which occurred Saturday, killed the suspected perpetrator and injured four others. Authorities say the individual left behind online writings suggesting anti-population views and appeared to livestream the attack.

“This was an intentional act of terrorism,” said Akil Davis, FBI Los Angeles field office chief, during a news briefing. The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, is believed to have died in a car explosion behind the American Reproductive Centres clinic.

The explosion shattered windows, scattered debris across a five-lane road, and blew out parts of nearby buildings. A burned-out vehicle was found in the clinic’s parking lot, and the roof of the facility collapsed from the impact.

Palm Springs Mayor Pro Tem Naomi Soto described the clinic as “a place of hope,” noting its role in helping families grow. “We share in the community’s grief and concern for the victims,” she said.

The clinic was closed at the time of the explosion. Dr. Maher Abdallah, who heads the facility, confirmed no staff or patients were harmed, and the clinic’s IVF lab and embryo storage—housed off-site—remained unaffected.

Eyewitness Rhino Williams, who works at a nearby hotel, said he heard a powerful boom and rushed to help. “Bricks and glass were everywhere,” he recalled. “I saw fire and what looked like a body part. It was chaos.”

Another witness, Steven Michael Chacon, was waiting to turn into a hospital across the street when the explosion sent a cloud of black smoke into the sky. “There were screams, blood, and shattered glass,” he said.

Palm Springs, a city known for its luxury resorts and celebrity history, was rocked by the rare act of violence. The Trump administration swiftly condemned the attack.

“Violence against a fertility clinic is unforgivable,” said Attorney General Pam Bondi in a statement. “Women and mothers are the heartbeat of America.”

The FBI says no additional suspects are being sought as investigations continue into the attacker’s motives and planning.
