Netflix has announced plans to invest more than €1 billion in Spanish film and TV productions through 2029, further cementing Spain as a key creative hub for the streaming giant in Europe.
Speaking at an event in Netflix’s Madrid-area studios on Tuesday, co-CEO Ted Sarandos highlighted the platform’s long-term commitment to Spain’s entertainment industry. “With this investment, we’ll contribute more to Spain’s economy, generate more local jobs, and tell more great stories made in Spain,” Sarandos said, alongside Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
The announcement comes as Netflix marks a decade of operations in Spain. Its first studio outside the U.S. opened in Madrid in 2019, following the global success of the Spanish crime series Money Heist. The 22,000-square-meter facility has since become one of Netflix’s main EU production centers.
The company says its Spanish operations currently support over 20,000 jobs, reflecting the country’s growing importance in Netflix’s global content strategy.
