Anambra CP Detains Three Inspectors over Alleged Corruption, Orders Disciplinary Action
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered the detention of three police inspectors following allegations of corruption and misconduct during a routine security patrol.
In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the CP directed the immediate commencement of internal disciplinary proceedings against the officers involved.
According to Ikenga, the CP strongly condemned the officers’ actions during an interrogation, describing their behavior as a disgrace to the Nigeria Police Force. The inspectors reportedly accosted a civilian, conducted a forced phone search, and extorted money from the victim.
The Commissioner emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force remains a disciplined and accountable institution that will not tolerate any form of abuse of office or unprofessional conduct. He warned that such acts not only undermine the integrity of the Force but also erode public trust and obstruct the effective implementation of policing policies.
“The CP made it clear that misconduct of this nature is completely unacceptable and will be met with firm disciplinary measures,” Ikenga stated.
The Police Command assured the public of its commitment to transparency, justice, and restoring confidence in law enforcement.
