A heartbreaking tragedy struck on Thursday when a family of five from Banswara, Rajasthan lost their lives in the Air India Flight AI171 crash shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad.

The victims have been identified as Pratik Joshi, a software engineer who had been living in the UK for nine years; his wife, Dr. Komi Vyas; their twin sons, Pradyut and Nakul; and their eldest daughter, Miraya.

The family was relocating to London to begin a new life together when the aircraft crashed into a medical college complex in Ahmedabad’s Meghaninagar area, bursting into flames just moments after takeoff. Before boarding, they captured a final family selfie, which they shared with relatives—now a haunting last memory of their hopeful journey.

According to sources close to the family, Dr. Vyas had resigned from her job just two days prior in preparation for the relocation. It was meant to be a long-awaited family reunion and a fresh start abroad.

News of their sudden death has sent shockwaves through their hometown. Friends, colleagues, and neighbors in Banswara are reeling from the loss, describing the family as warm, hardworking, and full of promise.

“The whole town is in mourning,” a family friend told News18, expressing disbelief over the tragic incident.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, which claimed multiple lives and left a trail of grief in its wake.
