Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State has advised corps members posted to the state to approach their one-year mandatory national service with open hearts and minds.
Sani gave the advice at the swearing-in of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream ‘II’ corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp on Friday in Kaduna.
The governor, who was represented by the state’s Commissioner of Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Rabi Salisu, emphasised the importance of embracing the NYSC experience.
According to him, the experince during the programme provides an opportunity for personal growth, cultural exchange, and nation-building.
The governor highlighted the NYSC scheme’s role in promoting national integration and removing barriers such as ethnic intolerance and sectionalism.
He assured the corps members of a rewarding experience in the state, stating that his government would give priority to their welfare.
“I urge the corps members to take their language training seriously, which will enable them to communicate effectively with the people of their host community.
“This, will facilitate your integration and enhance your effectiveness in your place of primary assignment,” Sani said.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Efeke Dadaza, said the orientation course was aimed at preparing the corps members for the service year, featuring language lessons, leadership training and para-military drills.
“The 21-day orientation course features self-defense training and vocational entrepreneurship training.
“Also, inter-platoon competitions in sports and social activities are arranged for the corps members to relax and develop their talents.
“All camp programmes and activities are compulsory to equip corps members for the service year,” she said.
Dadaza, therefore, urged corps members to respect camp officials and obey rules, stressing that indiscipline would not be tolerated.
She highlighted some challenges facing the camp which included the need for a permanent site and essential facilities.
The coordinator expressed gratitude to the state government for its unwavering support to the NYSC scheme in the state.
