The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that the object seen in a viral video held by Pastor Paul Adefarasin, Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, was a stun gun and not a lethal weapon.
Spokesperson for the command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this to newsmen on Tuesday night, noting that the object is classified as a prohibited anti-riot equipment.
“What was recovered from him, the gun-like object seen in the viral video, is not a lethal weapon or firearm but a stun gun which is a prohibited anti-riot equipment,” Hundeyin stated.
He explained that Pastor Adefarasin voluntarily presented himself at the Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday morning and was interrogated over the incident.
“He was interrogated and he volunteered cautionary statement to the police investigators,” Hundeyin added.
The clergyman was subsequently granted administrative bail while investigations into the matter continue.
The incident stems from a viral video that emerged in the first week of June, showing Adefarasin allegedly brandishing a gun-like object while stuck in traffic. The clip sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with some users alleging that he was pointing a firearm at another road user. The video was reportedly captured by a TikToker known for filming luxury vehicles in Lagos traffic.
In response to the controversy, Pastor Adefarasin addressed the issue via his social media platforms and during a church service, stating that the object was not a firearm and insisting that he never pointed it at anyone.
“The object was neither a firearm, nor did I point it at anyone,” the pastor said.
