US Confirms Iran Fired Missiles at Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar

The United States Department of Defense has confirmed that Iran launched several short- and medium-range ballistic missiles targeting the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on June 23.

According to a Pentagon statement, no U.S. casualties have been reported so far. “We are monitoring this situation closely,” the statement added.

Earlier, Qatar’s Ministry of Defense said the country’s air defense systems successfully intercepted the missiles aimed at the U.S. military installation, which hosts thousands of American troops and serves as the regional headquarters for the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

“Thanks to God and the vigilance of our armed forces, the incident resulted in no casualties,” the Qatari statement noted, while also condemning the attack as a “flagrant violation” of its sovereignty and airspace.

Qatar warned that it reserves the right to respond proportionately and cautioned that continued military escalation in the region could destabilize the Gulf and pose serious threats to international peace and security.

The missile attack came a day after U.S. strikes on Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility, which Tehran had vowed to retaliate against. Iran’s armed forces have since claimed responsibility for the strike, saying it was a direct response to U.S. aggression and a warning against further actions targeting Iranian interests.

Witnesses in Doha reported multiple explosions and sightings of projectiles in the sky, prompting Qatar and the United Arab Emirates to temporarily close their airspace amid fears of wider regional conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.

Saudi Arabia also condemned the Iranian attack, calling it “unjustifiable” and pledged its full support to Qatar. “The Kingdom affirms its solidarity and offers all its capabilities to assist the sisterly State of Qatar in any necessary measures,” the Saudi Foreign Ministry stated.

Prior to the attack, both the United States and the United Kingdom had advised their citizens in Qatar to shelter in place due to possible threats.

Al Udeid Air Base is the largest U.S. military installation in the Middle East, playing a central role in U.S. operations across the region.
