A British GP who was reportedly among doctors who provided medical care to members of the royal family has allegedly been killed by her husband while hosting a children’s sleepover at their home.

Dr Hannah Cain, who was professionally known as Dr Hannah Terry, was found unconscious and not breathing in an upstairs bedroom at her home in Dersingham, Norfolk, in the early hours of Saturday, October 4.

Her husband, 45-year-old Mark Cain, has been charged with her murder and appeared before Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, October 7.

Prosecutor Jackie Hanlon told the court that emergency services contacted police at about 2:25am after Dr Cain was found in the bedroom.

“She was found in an upstairs bedroom not breathing, not conscious,” Hanlon told the court.

The court heard that a post-mortem examination identified a blunt-force injury to the right side of her head, as well as an injury that could indicate compression of the neck.

Hanlon also told the court that children were present in the property at the time of the alleged incident.

Cain, who appeared in court wearing a black sweater, spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth. He was not required to enter a plea.

District Judge Matthew Bone subsequently remanded him in custody and sent the case to King’s Lynn Crown Court, where he is expected to appear on Thursday, October 8.

Dr Cain was listed as a member of the practice team at Grimston Medical Centre and had worked as a qualified doctor for more than 15 years, including about eight years as a GP.

She was also involved in a cosmetics business, Norfolk Sky Aesthetics, where she described herself as a caring and professional doctor who continued working as a GP alongside her business.

The family said in a statement: “She was kind, generous and loving; a beloved mother, daughter, sister, auntie, daughter-in-law and friend.

“We are incredibly proud of the woman she was and of the great care she took of all her patients who knew her as Dr Terry.

“We would ask people to respect our privacy at this difficult time.”

The family home is located just over a mile from Sandringham House, one of the royal residences.

Reports also said King Charles III and Queen Camilla had been informed of Dr Cain’s death.
