The eleven passengers and driver abducted from a Benue Links vehicle in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State have regained their freedom after spending a week in captivity.
The incident occurred on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Eke Elegbencho, where unidentified gunmen hijacked the commercial vehicle and whisked away its occupants.
Benue Links Nigeria Limited confirmed their release in a statement issued Sunday by the company’s Information Officer, Johnson Ehi.
“Benue Links Nigeria Limited is relieved to confirm the safe release of the remaining 10 passengers and the driver who were abducted during a recent unfortunate incident involving one of our vehicles along the Eke-Elengbecho axis,” the statement read.
According to the company, 12 passengers were abducted during the attack. Two were rescued earlier, while the rest were held for several days before being freed.
“All individuals appear to be in stable condition but will undergo medical checkups and psychological support sessions to help them recover from the traumatic experience before reuniting with their families,” Ehi added.
