The Group of Seven (G7) has firmly declared that Iran must never be allowed to possess nuclear weapons, while calling for renewed negotiations to ensure a comprehensive and verifiable agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme.

In a joint statement released at The Hague by G7 Foreign Ministers and the High Representative of the European Union, the group expressed deep concern over recent developments in Iran and the broader Middle East.

“We reaffirm that the Islamic Republic of Iran can never have nuclear weapons, and urge Iran to refrain from reconstituting its unjustified enrichment activities,” the G7 said.

The group, which includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, with the EU as a non-enumerated member, stressed the urgent need for Iran to return to full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The G7 demanded that Iran provide the IAEA with access and verifiable information on all nuclear materials in its possession, in line with its obligations under international safeguards.

The group also condemned recent threats against IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, saying, “We condemn calls in Iran for the arrest and execution of IAEA Director General Grossi.”

On regional security, the G7 expressed support for the recently announced ceasefire between Israel and Iran brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump.

“We urge all parties to avoid actions that could further destabilise the region,” the group said, while commending Qatar’s role in facilitating the truce and expressing solidarity with Qatar and Iraq following recent attacks by Iran and its allied forces.

The statement reaffirmed the importance of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as the foundation of global nuclear disarmament efforts and urged Iran to remain fully compliant.

Reiterating its commitment to Middle East peace and security, the G7 stated, “We reaffirm that Israel has a right to defend itself. We reiterate our support for the security of Israel.”
