The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 25-year-old suspect, Ayomide Oluwadamilare, over the gruesome murder of Kola Adun, a resident of River Valley Estate, Ojodu Berger.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abeokuta by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola.
Odutola said the lifeless and decomposing body of Adun was discovered in his home in Lagos State, with visible stab wounds, following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer of Ojodu Abiodun Division in the early hours of July 7.
“The DPO received a distress call around 1:00 a.m. from a resident of Mabarak in Akute, who reported an unusual stench coming from a house in the area,” Odutola stated.
She explained that officers swiftly proceeded to Ogunmoyero Street, River Valley Estate, where they forcefully entered the premises and found Adun’s corpse on the first floor, bearing visible wounds.
“Bloodstains were also found at the scene, and the deceased’s Toyota Camry with registration number AAA 193 GC was missing,” she added.
According to her, suspicions were first raised on Sunday, July 6, when a friend of the deceased went to pick him up for church service and discovered that the gate was locked from the outside.
“Calls to the victim went unanswered before his phone was eventually switched off. The friend immediately informed the family and reported the matter to the Ojodu Abiodun Police Station,” Odutola said.
She explained that preliminary investigations revealed that Oluwadamilare, a former driver to the deceased, had unlawfully entered the house on Saturday, July 5, with the intent to rob, and allegedly stabbed Adun to death before fleeing with the vehicle.
The major breakthrough, according to Odutola, came when the suspect attempted to sell the stolen vehicle to a car dealer in Ijede, Ikorodu.
“The dealer, who became suspicious of the suspect, contacted the police, leading to Oluwadamilare’s prompt arrest at the point of sale,” she said.
She further revealed that Adun’s remains had been evacuated to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, for autopsy.
The case, she added, will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta for further investigation and prosecution.
