The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that two people lost their lives while 10 others sustained injuries in a motor accident that occurred along the Ringim-Kano road in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The Sector Commander of the FRSC in the state, Mr. Umar Mas’ud, disclosed this to journalists in Dutse on Friday, noting that the accident happened around 10:40 a.m. on Thursday and involved two Volkswagen Golf vehicles.

According to him, the crash was caused by over speeding and wrongful overtaking.

He revealed that a total of 13 persons were involved in the fatal incident, all of whom hailed from Bareda village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

In a significant show of transparency, the FRSC said it recovered over N2.1 million at the scene of the accident. The money, Mr. Mas’ud explained, belonged to one of the deceased and a surviving victim.

He said the recovered sum had been handed over to relatives of the victims in the presence of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the area, ASP Abdullahi Ibrahim.

“It is my pleasure to inform the general public that our personnel were involved in a rescue operation in the Ringim area on Thursday and during the exercise, the sum of N2,166,700 was recovered,” Mas’ud stated.

“After thorough investigation with the support of the police in the area, all the money recovered was handed over to relatives of the victims,” he added.

The sector commander commended the Unit Command responsible for the area for their honesty and diligence in recovering and returning the money.

He also reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to integrity, public service, and compassion in the discharge of its duties.

Mas’ud used the opportunity to caution motorists against dangerous driving habits.

He said, “Motorists must desist from over speeding, wrongful overtaking, and other acts capable of causing road crashes under whatever circumstances.”
