Benue Teenager Arrested for Fatally Attacking Teacher Over Confiscated Cap
A 16-year-old student of UBE Junior Secondary School, Oju Centre, in Benue State has been arrested for allegedly killing his teacher during a confrontation on school grounds.
The student, identified as Friday Ogamude, reportedly attacked 35-year-old Mr. Oyibe Oyibe following a dispute believed to be linked to a cap the teacher confiscated in May 2025.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who first reported the incident via a post on X (formerly Twitter), the teacher collapsed after being struck by the student.
Mr. Oyibe was rushed to Amara Hospital in Oju but was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.
The Benue State Police Command has taken Ogamude into custody and launched a full investigation. The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the General Hospital, Oju, for autopsy.
In a statement, the police condemned the attack and assured the public that justice will be served. Authorities pledged to pursue appropriate legal action upon completion of the investigation.
