Troops Arrest Two, Recover Cache of Illegal Weapons in Taraba Raid

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested two suspects and recovered a cache of illegal weapons during a targeted operation in Taraba State.

The operation, carried out in Gayama village of Donga Local Government Area, followed credible intelligence on the presence of illegal arms in the area.

Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations for 6 Brigade, Captain Olubodunde Oni, confirmed the development in a statement over the weekend.

The arrested suspects, identified as Haruna Samari and Dantala Mamman, were found in possession of several weapons and military-related equipment.

Items recovered include:

  • One submachine gun
  • One magazine with 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition
  • One empty case of 7.62mm special ammunition
  • Two fabricated rifles
  • Three single-barrel guns
  • Three Dane guns
  • Five live cartridges
  • Four empty cartridge cases
  • One Beofeng radio
  • One helmet

The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing investigation.

Commander of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their swift action and restated the Brigade’s resolve to rid the state of arms proliferation.

He also called on residents to continue supporting the military by providing timely and accurate information to enhance security operations across Taraba.
