Netanyahu Diagnosed With Intestinal Inflammation After Food Poisoning

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been diagnosed with intestinal inflammation following a bout of food poisoning and will take a three-day medical rest, his office announced on Sunday.

According to the statement, Netanyahu fell ill overnight due to consuming spoiled food. While his condition was described as stable, doctors have advised that he remain at home to rest and continue managing state affairs remotely.

As a result, the prime minister will miss a scheduled Knesset meeting on Sunday and will not appear for his corruption trial session at the Tel Aviv District Court on Monday, Israeli Channel 12 reported.

Netanyahu, who is currently on trial for bribery, fraud, and breach of trust, began appearing in court in May 2020—making him the first sitting Israeli leader to stand trial as a criminal defendant.

In addition to his ongoing domestic legal troubles, Netanyahu also faces international charges. The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants in November 2024 for both Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in connection with Israel’s military operations in Gaza. The conflict, which reignited in October 2023, has claimed nearly 59,000 lives—mostly women and children, according to rights groups.

Despite his legal and political challenges, Netanyahu remains at the helm of Israel’s government and is expected to resume full duties once medically cleared.
