Gombe ACReSAL project beneficiaries pledge to champion fight against climate change
Some beneficiaries of the Gombe State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) projects in Funakaye communities have pledged to champion the fight against climate change in their various communities.
They made the pledge in Bajoga town of Funakaye Local Government Area of the State on Saturday after receiving energy-efficient cooking stoves distributed to them by ACReSAL.
They said that the stove was a good remainder of the need for communities to support the Gombe State government and World Bank’s efforts at addressing impacts of climate change in the state.
Malam Suleiman Muhammad, from Kesala community said he would promote efforts at combating desertification, restoring degraded lands, and promoting climate-resilient agricultural practices in the state.
Hajiya Aisha Adamu, from Lamurde community said that she would advocate the need for members of her community to reduce acts that increase gas emissions.
Others corroborated Muhammad and Adamu while pledging to plant more trees during the rainy season while ensuring that they work to reverse the impact of climate change on the environment, agriculture and other sectors.
They commended Gov Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State and ACReSAL team led by its project coordinator in the state, Dr Sani Jauro for their “tireless efforts at building the capacity of communities and stakeholders to become resilient and to recover from climate change impacts and other associated environmental challenges.”
