Desmond Elliot Sponsors Boxing Match in Lagos to Promote Youth Talent, Entertainment

Actor-turned-lawmaker Desmond Elliot is bringing the heat to Lagos with a thrilling boxing showdown set to take place today, Saturday, August 23, at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.

The high-stakes bout will see Nigerian-born heavyweight Ike ‘The President’ Ibeabuchi face off against local contender Idris Afinni, in what promises to be a night of action, adrenaline, and entertainment.

Elliot, who represents Surulere Constituency 1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, is sponsoring the event in partnership with top boxing promoter Miyen Akiri of Prizefighting.tv.

“This is going to be the greatest boxing bout Nigerians have seen since Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson,” Elliot said. “And it’s happening right here in Surulere!”

The event has been officially sanctioned by the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C) and will be streamed live on Prizefighting.tv, giving boxing fans at home front-row access.

Elliot emphasized that the event goes beyond entertainment—it’s about empowering youth and elevating local talent.

“Representation isn’t just about handouts,” he said. “It’s about promoting sports, creativity, and ambition. We’re taking it to the next level.”

Calling on residents from Coker Aguda, Itire-Ikate, and beyond, Elliot urged Lagosians to come out and support their own.
