President Bola Tinubu arrived in Brasília early Monday for a two-day state visit aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s relations with Brazil.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the presidential aircraft, Nigerian Air Force One (NAF-001), also called “Eagle One,” landed at Brasília International Airport around 12:30 a.m. local time (4:30 a.m. Nigerian time).
On arrival, Tinubu was received by Carlos Duarte, Brazil’s Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, Carlos José Moreno Garcete, Brazil’s Ambassador to Nigeria, as well as senior Nigerian officials, including Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu.
The President proceeded to his hotel, where he was welcomed by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass, Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, and Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State.
Also on hand were Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, and Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, among others.
During the visit, President Tinubu is expected to meet with his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, at the Planalto Palace. Both leaders will witness the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and hold a joint press conference.
The Nigerian leader will also meet with the President of the Brazilian Senate, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, and the President of the Supreme Federal Court.
As part of his engagements, Tinubu will participate in the Nigeria-Brazil Business Forum, with discussions focusing on aviation, agribusiness, livestock, security, trade, and cultural exchange.
Talks will also explore cooperation in agriculture, energy transition, regional security, and other areas of mutual strategic interest. A key highlight of the visit will be the signing of a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) to enable direct flights between Nigeria and Brazil.
The high-level meetings will be complemented by breakout sessions and sideline engagements involving Nigerian ministries.
