Aitana Bonmatí Wins Third Consecutive Ballon d’Or Féminin
Barcelona and Spain midfielder Aitana Bonmatí has been crowned the 2025 Ballon d’Or Féminin winner, securing the prestigious award for the third year in a row.
The 27-year-old edged out strong competition from her Barcelona teammate Mariona Caldentey, England striker Alessia Russo, and fellow Barça icon Alexia Putellas to retain the title, cementing her status as one of the greatest players of her generation.
Visibly emotional as she accepted the award, Bonmatí reflected on her journey and acknowledged the high level of competition this year. “Third time here in a row, I don’t really know what to say. Incredible… It could have easily gone to any of you,” she said.
She dedicated the honor to her teammates, coaches, and family, and expressed her joy at receiving the trophy from Andrés Iniesta, one of her childhood idols, with Xavi Hernández also in attendance.
Bonmatí also hailed the progress of women’s football, celebrating that for the first time, the Ballon d’Or Féminin now offers the same recognition as the men’s prize. “Equality is something we’ve been demanding for a long time. Today we’ve achieved it,” she noted.
Her third consecutive Ballon d’Or further underscores Barcelona’s dominance in women’s football and strengthens her legacy as one of the sport’s most decorated players.
