The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Friday swore in 2,200 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members deployed to Nasarawa State for the 2025 national service programme.

Governor Abdullahi Sule, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Yakubu Kwanta, declared the orientation open at the Magaji Dan-Yamusa NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Keffi Local Government Area.

In his address, the governor congratulated the corps members on successfully completing their academic programmes, which qualified them for the one-year national service.

He noted that the corps members were fortunate to be posted to Nasarawa due to its proximity to the Federal Capital Territory, peaceful atmosphere, and vast untapped economic opportunities.

Sule assured them of his administration’s continued support, particularly for those who distinguished themselves through community development projects.

“Any corps member who initiates a project or programme that impacts a host community positively will be duly recognised and rewarded by our administration,” he said.

He stressed his government’s tradition of rewarding excellence and pledged to sustain corps members’ welfare throughout their service year.

The governor described the orientation course as a strategic programme designed to equip participants with the necessary skills for effective performance during the national assignment.

“You must sustain this tempo throughout your service year by showing commitment, diligence, and contributing meaningfully to national and community development,” he emphasised, urging them to emulate the dedication and patriotism of their predecessors.

Sule further advised corps members to acquaint themselves with the NYSC Bye-laws as a guide for a successful service year. He also commended the NYSC management, corps members, and partner agencies for their commitment to the scheme’s goals and its mission of fostering national unity.

In her remarks, the State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Salamatu Muhammad, expressed appreciation to the governor for his consistent support for the scheme and commitment to youth development.

She said the orientation exercise remained vital in instilling discipline, unity, patriotism, cultural understanding, and a sense of responsibility among corps members.

“Beyond being a routine, the orientation promotes patriotism, unity, cultural understanding, and physical and mental discipline among corps members,” Muhammad explained.

She disclosed that the 2,200 corps members posted to the state comprised 1,020 males and 1,180 females, noting that they had demonstrated resilience, unity, and enthusiasm since arriving at camp.
