Fans Shower Tributes as Joke Silva Marks 64th Birthday

Nollywood icon, Joke Silva, received an outpouring of love and admiration from fans, colleagues and admirers on Monday as she clocked 64.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that social media platforms were flooded with heartfelt tributes and prayers for the veteran actress, fondly called “Aunty J.”

Silva had earlier taken to her verified Instagram page, @ajokesilva, to express gratitude for her journey so far. She wrote:

“Grateful Lord for your Mercy, your Faithfulness, for protection, for Provision, for Family, for Friends, for Colleagues, thank you King of Glory for 64 amazing years.”

Her post drew swift reactions as well-wishers celebrated her remarkable life and career.

Media mogul Mo Abudu wrote: “Happy birthday big sis, all my love.”

Actress Chisom Asanya also penned: “Happy birthday beautiful mama.”

Colleague Shan George posted: “Happy birthday Aunty J, I wish u good health in wealth and prosperity. More grace.”

Actor Sam Dede added: “Happy birthday to you, Aunty Jay. Many happy returns in sound health. Cheers.”

Other fans were not left out in showering love. One user, @insighteunice, described her as the “ever gorgeous eloquent and amazing sweet mummy J.” Another, @preetikelu, hailed her as a “Nollywood goddess.”

Born on Sept. 29, 1961, in Lagos State, Silva made her mark in Nollywood with a major acting role in the 1998 British-Canadian film “The Secret Laughter of Women,” where she starred opposite Colin Firth and Nia Long.

Her career, which spans English and Yoruba productions, also includes early roles like the 1990 English television series “Mind Bending.”

Over the years, the celebrated actress has earned numerous recognitions. She won the Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 2006 Africa Movie Academy Awards. In 2012, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime appointed her a goodwill ambassador, and in 2014 she was honoured with the national award of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).

As she celebrates her 64th birthday, fans continue to hail her legacy as one of Nollywood’s finest.
