Over 200 Taliban, 23 Pakistani Soldiers Killed in Fierce Overnight Border Clashes
At least 23 Pakistani soldiers and more than 200 Taliban and Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants were killed in heavy overnight clashes along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, the Pakistani Army announced on Sunday.
The fighting, described as one of the deadliest in recent months, erupted after what Pakistan called “unprovoked attacks” by Afghan forces. In response, the Pakistani military said it launched retaliatory strikes, capturing 19 Afghan military posts and several “terrorist hideouts.”
However, Kabul disputed Pakistan’s account, claiming that 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 30 others wounded during the confrontation.
Tensions have continued to rise between the two neighbours, each accusing the other of harbouring militants responsible for cross-border violence.
Afghanistan’s Taliban government has yet to release an official casualty figure, though its chief spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, addressed reporters in Kabul on Sunday, accusing Pakistan of violating Afghan sovereignty.
