The Nigeria Police Force has arrested and repatriated a 61-year-old Turkish fugitive, Acar Huseyin, who fled his country after being convicted of fraud earlier this year.

Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, announced on Tuesday that Huseyin had been sentenced by the Istanbul Anadolu High Criminal Court to 14 years, eight months, and 10 days in prison before absconding in a bid to evade justice.

According to Hundeyin, the fugitive travelled through the Middle East before making his way into Nigeria.
“In July 2025, INTERPOL NCB Ankara issued a Red Notice requesting member countries to locate and arrest the fugitive. Acting on this request, INTERPOL NCB Abuja initiated discreet, intelligence-led operations which resulted in his arrest in Abuja,” the statement said.

Following the completion of required documentation and international coordination, Huseyin was repatriated to Istanbul to begin serving his sentence.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the INTERPOL unit for its professionalism, stressing that Nigeria would not be a sanctuary for fugitives or convicted criminals.

He added that the force remains committed to fulfilling its international obligations, strengthening cross-border policing cooperation, and supporting global efforts to combat transnational crime.
