President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ending insecurity in Nigeria, promising to work tirelessly to address its root causes while promoting economic development, social cohesion and inclusivity.
Tinubu stated this on Saturday during the Passing Out Parade of 1,187 Regular Course 7 cadets of the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC), Wudil in Kano.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, he said the milestone marked not only a celebration of the cadets’ hard work and dedication, but also the administration’s efforts toward building a more secure and prosperous nation.
“I am impressed by the tremendous progress made by the Police Academy since its establishment.
“Its infrastructure and quality of training have improved significantly,” he said.
Tinubu said the academy’ vision aligns with his administration’s agenda of building a new Nigerian Police Force based on values of honesty, committed service, public accountability, integrity, and professional conduct.
He said his administration was committed to ensuring that police officers are well-educated, adequately trained and fully equipped to manage internal security while upholding human rights.
“Our administration is committed to supporting the Nigeria Police Academy, the police, and other security agencies with the resources, training, and equipment they need to excel.
“We will work tirelessly to address the root causes of insecurity and promote economic development, social cohesion and inclusivity,” Tinubu said.
The president urged the graduating cadets, who were commissioned as Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs), to uphold the highest ethical standards of professionalism, integrity and respect for human rights.
“As you embark on this noble journey, remember that you are guardians of our collective security.
“Treat every citizen with respect and fairness, and uphold the rule of law,” Tinubu added.
He also expressed gratitude to the families of the cadets, acknowledging their sacrifice and continued support.
On his part, the Commandant of the academy, AIG Patrick Adedeji-Atayero, said the institution was proud to present 1,187 well-trained officers who had completed degree programmes in various disciplines.
He urged the cadets to remain committed to discipline, integrity and service, describing them as protectors of peace and defenders of justice.
Adedeji-Atayero commended Tinubu, the Minister of Police Affairs, Sen. Usman Gaidam, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for their support in strengthening the Academy and driving reforms in the Nigeria Police Force.
“We remain committed to the Federal Government’s vision of a modernised and reformed police force.
“We will continue to produce officers who meet the demands of modern policing,” he said.
NAN reports that dignitaries at the event included parents, families, Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Gov. Abba Yusuf; the Jigawa Commissioner of Police; members of the National and State Assemblies; service chiefs; and the NSCDC Commandant-General, among others.
