Miss Universe reveals extent of Miss Jamaica’s injuries after stage fall
The Miss Universe Organization has released full details of the injuries sustained by Miss Jamaica, Dr Gabrielle Henry, following her fall from the stage during the preliminary round of the global pageant in Bangkok.
In a statement issued on December 8, the organization confirmed that Henry, who was hospitalised on November 19, suffered a serious fall that resulted in an intracranial haemorrhage, loss of consciousness, a fracture, facial lacerations and other significant injuries.
According to the statement, Henry was immediately admitted to intensive care at a Bangkok hospital, where she has remained under 24-hour specialist neurological monitoring since the incident. Plans are now underway to fly her back to Jamaica in the coming days with a full medical escort, after which she will be transferred directly to a local hospital for continued treatment.
The Miss Universe Organization disclosed that it has assumed full responsibility for all medical, hospital and rehabilitation costs, as well as accommodation and living expenses for Henry’s mother and sister, who have stayed in Thailand to be by her side.
“From the time the incident took place, the Miss Universe Organization has stood beside Gabrielle and her family as if she were their own,” the statement read. “We have assumed full and immediate responsibility.”
The organization also confirmed it would cover the cost of her medically supervised repatriation flight and all future medical expenses linked to the accident. It firmly rejected online claims suggesting Henry was at fault, describing such reports as inaccurate and stressing that no blame has ever been placed on her.
Henry’s family expressed gratitude to Jamaicans, members of the Miss Universe community and supporters worldwide for their prayers and messages of support.
Video clips shared online captured the moment Henry accidentally stepped off the edge of the stage while walking the runway and fell to the ground, sparking panic among audience members. She was later seen being taken away on a stretcher and rushed to Paolo Rangsit Hospital.
The incident comes amid broader controversy surrounding this year’s Miss Universe competition. Reports emerged that co-owners Jakkaphong “Anne” Jakrajutatip and Raul Rocha Cantú faced legal issues shortly after the event. The pageant was also rocked by disputes involving contestants, including a mass walkout following comments made about Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch, who ultimately won the title.
Several contestants have since criticised the conduct of the event, with Miss Universe Haiti, Melissa Sapini, describing the pageant as “absolutely diabolical” and raising concerns about its future.
