The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) on Friday officially unveiled its redesigned corporate logo during a seminar for journalists held in collaboration with the Art and Culture Writers Association of Nigeria (ACWAN).
Speaking at the event in Abuja, the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Ijeoma Egbunike, urged journalists and media professionals to update their records and discontinue the use of the old logo.
Egbunike explained that the new emblem features a circular green-and-red badge with 36 radiating red spikes, symbolising Nigeria’s 36 states. The spikes form a hexagonal police star, representing the Commission’s enforcement mandate.
She noted that the six tallest spikes signify the six major categories of copyright works: literary, musical, artistic, audiovisual works, sound recordings and broadcasts. They also reflect the six geopolitical zones and the richness of Nigeria’s creative landscape.
According to her, the three flowing green-white-green blocks containing the “NCC” initials represent book spines, the flow of ideas and the dynamic nature of copyright. The inner green circle stands for creativity and aligns with the Commission’s core mandate of protecting creative works, while the outer blue circle symbolises the wealth generated through creative industries.
