At least four people have been confirmed dead while three others remain missing after a coal mine accident in southwest China, authorities said on Thursday.

The incident occurred at the Daying coal mine in Zhenxiong County on Wednesday evening, following what officials described as a suspected coal and gas outburst. The accident happened at about 8:10 p.m. local time, according to information released by the county government and reported by state-run Xinhua news agency.

Emergency rescue teams have been deployed to the site, with efforts ongoing to locate the missing miners. Authorities have also launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
