A fire outbreak on Wednesday destroyed a building used as a foam depot along Asa-Dam Road in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, sparking panic among residents as the flames spread toward nearby structures.

A video obtained by SaharaReporters showed the inferno raging from behind the affected building and advancing toward adjoining houses, with thick smoke billowing across the area.

In the footage, a visibly distressed man was heard urging residents to immediately contact the fire service, warning that the blaze was spreading rapidly and endangering lives and property.

“Help us call the fire service to come. One house has been completely burnt by fire. There are people there and many houses around,” he cried.

He also raised concerns about the proximity of a filling station to the scene, cautioning that the situation could worsen if urgent intervention was delayed.

“There is a filling station beside where the fire is burning. Please, help us call the fire service,” he added.

Voices in the video indicated that the affected building was used for selling foams—highly flammable materials—which may have intensified the fire.

As the blaze spread, occupants of a neighbouring house were seen hurriedly evacuating their belongings to safer locations, fearing their homes would be engulfed.

As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire remained unknown, and it was unclear whether firefighters arrived in time to contain the situation. No casualties had been reported.
