China Strengthens Commitment to Africa Ahead of 2024 FOCAC Summit

Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, has reaffirmed China’s dedication to strengthening its partnership with African nations as preparations are finalized for the upcoming Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit. The event, set to take place from September 4 to 5 in Beijing, is expected to bolster Africa’s development initiatives.

Wang emphasized that the success of the summit would not only deepen political trust but also enhance cooperation between China and African nations. He noted that China is eager to collaborate with South Africa and other African countries to advance strategic communication and reinforce their shared goals as part of the Global South.

The South African Foreign Minister, Ronald Lamola, also highlighted the strong political ties and growing economic partnership between the two nations. He acknowledged China’s position as South Africa’s largest trading partner and reaffirmed his country’s support for China’s sovereignty, including its policies on Taiwan, Hong Kong, Xinjiang, and Xizang.
