Former Ogun State Governor and Senator, Ibikunle Amosun, has declared his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambition ahead of the 2027 general election.

Amosun made this known on Sunday while speaking with journalists during his 68th birthday celebration in Abeokuta, Ogun State. He said it was fair and just for the South to complete an eight-year presidential tenure in line with Nigeria’s rotational arrangement between the North and South.

Reaffirming his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the former senator stressed that equity, unity and national stability demand strict adherence to zoning, describing the arrangement as a “no-brainer” for anyone committed to fairness in Nigeria.

“In the interest of Nigeria, we must observe rotation. If the North takes the presidency this time, the South will have to take it the next time,” Amosun said.

“The last president from the North was President Muhammadu Buhari. He served for eight years. Now it is the turn of the South, with President Tinubu in office.

“Although President Tinubu represents all Nigerians, he is from the South-West and, by extension, represents the South. Anyone who truly loves Nigeria should agree that we must respect this rotational agreement,” he added.

Amosun acknowledged that the reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration had come with initial hardships but said the policies were beginning to yield positive results. He urged Nigerians to remain patient, expressing confidence that the Renewed Hope agenda would eventually deliver the dividends of democracy.

The event attracted several APC leaders and political figures, including former Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Lekan Adegbite; former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Sarafa Tunji Isola; former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Tunde Lemo; and former senators Iyabo Anisulowo and Gbenga Obadara, among others.
