The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shu’aibu, on Friday inaugurated three newly renovated blocks of family flats for soldiers at the Ribadu Cantonment in Kaduna.

The reports gathered that each block contains 30 flats, bringing the total number of renovated family apartments to 90 units for soldiers and their families.

Shu’aibu, who was represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander, Sector 1, Operation Fansan Yamma, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, said the project aligned with the Army’s commitment to improving personnel welfare and living conditions.

He explained that the blocks had been previously occupied but had fallen into serious disrepair, making it necessary to relocate residents to allow for comprehensive renovation.

“This necessitated the relocation of residents to enable proper rehabilitation of the buildings,” he said.

“I approved funds for the project as part of my vision to prioritise soldiers’ welfare and improve their living standards. This is one of several renovation projects being executed across formations, while more are ongoing. New accommodation blocks are also under construction to address housing deficits.”

The COAS urged beneficiaries to maintain the facilities to ensure their durability and long-term sustainability.

Speaking on behalf of residents of Block 20, one of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Fumilayo Yonde, commended the Army leadership for the intervention, describing the previous condition of the building as deplorable and unsafe.

She noted that occupants had lived in fear due to falling debris from the structure and pledged that residents would ensure proper maintenance of the renovated facility.

She also prayed for continued success for the Army leadership and its welfare initiatives.

NAN reports that the renovation projects were completed within a three-month period.
