Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has urged public office holders to ensure  accountability in governance and shun pursuits of illicit wealth.

He said this at the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting, on Wednesday in Bauchi.

Mohammed also described Ramadan fast as a solemn period for repentance, sacrifice and renewed devotion to Allah.

He charged members of the council to prioritise legacy, accountability and service to humanity as a guiding principle to good governance, stressing that leaders must reflect deeply on their conduct and responsibilities to the people.

“Material riches accumulated through public office offer no lasting value, wealth can easily vanish, while enduring developmental achievements remain the true measure of leadership.

“Governance should focus on improving citizens’ welfare through strengthened education, healthcare and economic empowerment initiatives capable of raising productivity and expanding the state’s economic base.

“Meaningful service not financial gain defines responsible leadership and earns lasting public trust,” he said.

Mohammed reminded the council members that scrutiny by investigative and security institutions should be viewed as an opportunity to demonstrate transparency, sincerity and discipline in public administration rather than intimidation.

“Operating from an opposition political position requires even greater caution and efficiency to maintain credibility and deliver measurable results.”

While restating confidence in team capacity to uphold ethical standards in governance, Mohammed enjoined them to be steadfast, accountable and committed to building a state defined by integrity, social justice and sustainable development.
