Romania’s President, Nicușor Dan, has announced that his country is ready to evacuate up to 1,000 children from Gaza for medical treatment in Romanian hospitals, while also contributing to the reconstruction of key civilian institutions in the territory.

Speaking on Thursday at a high-level meeting in Washington, DC, Dan praised US President Donald Trump for convening the inaugural session of the Board of Peace, describing the initiative as a comprehensive and stable framework for achieving lasting peace.

“I think everyone desires peace, stability and prosperity in Gaza. The question is how to act,” Dan said, commending Trump’s leadership and previous international peace efforts.

On the humanitarian front, the Romanian leader said his government is prepared to scale up evacuation flights for sick children requiring urgent medical care, adding that Romania has already carried out similar missions in the past. He noted that support could also be extended to as many as 4,000 accompanying family members.

Dan further revealed that Romania is ready to support the rebuilding of emergency response systems in Gaza, including ambulance services, firefighting units and related infrastructure, drawing on its expertise in disaster management and civil protection.

In the education sector, he said Romania is already offering scholarships to Palestinian students and is willing to expand the programme, alongside plans to help rebuild and refurbish schools across Gaza.

Emphasising institutional rebuilding as Romania’s most strategic contribution, Dan said the country has experience in restoring core state institutions such as the police, justice system and public administration in post-conflict environments, and is ready to deploy experts and trainers to support similar efforts in Gaza.

He concluded by stressing Romania’s historically strong relations with both Jewish and Palestinian communities, saying this positions the country to play a constructive role in advancing peace, and reaffirmed that Romania “can be counted on” in international efforts to stabilise and rebuild Gaza.
