The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and discipline following reports of unprofessional conduct by some of its personnel on Nigerian roads.

Chichebem Onukwubiri ACM Safety Engineering Officer at the Corps’ National Headquarters, stated this while addressing officers and men of the corps on Tuesday in Makurdi.

He said the corps had designed a reformed exercise to restore the corps’ core values rather than punishing officers.

According to him, the initiative is intended to strengthen the institution and reinforce its sacred mandate of safeguarding lives and property on the roads.

Onukwubiri urged the personnel to approach the programme with openness and sincerity, emphasising the need for attentive listening, honest engagement, deliberate learning, and willingness to adjust.

He said that every patrol operation and interaction with the public must reflect competence, integrity, and respect for human dignity.

The officer expressed confidence that the exercise would usher in a more professional corps, stressing that the FRSC had historically not been known for harassing road users.

He, however, acknowledged the recent incidents of misconduct involving some officers, describing the reform effort as a turning point towards restoring and rebuilding public confidence.

Also speaking, Benue Sector Commander of the Corps, Kehinde Dahunsi, described the programme as a strategic effort focused on sensitisation, discipline reinforcement, and institutional strengthening.

Dahunsi said that the initiative was aimed at positioning the corps for greater achievement in the discharge of its road safety mandate.

He emphasised that the dynamic nature of FRSC operations required regular capacity upliftment, noting that discipline remained the bedrock of the corps’ work.

He added that sustained professionalism among personnel was essential to maintaining the trust of the motoring public and ensuring safer roads across the country.
