Qatar has rejected Iran’s explanation for recent missile strikes on its territory, insisting that evidence shows the attacks hit civilian areas and critical infrastructure.

The position was communicated during a phone conversation between Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, and Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, amid rising tensions in the Middle East.

According to a statement released by Qatar News Agency, the Iranian minister had claimed that the missile strikes were aimed at American interests in the region and were not intended to target Qatar.

However, Al Thani rejected the explanation, stating that available evidence indicated the missiles struck civilian and residential areas inside the country, including locations close to Hamad International Airport.

He further warned that the attacks posed a threat to vital infrastructure and industrial facilities, including installations linked to Qatar’s liquefied natural gas production—one of the country’s most important economic sectors and a key contributor to global energy supply.

Describing the incident as a serious escalation, the Qatari prime minister said the strikes represent a clear violation of the country’s sovereignty and a breach of international law.

He stressed that actions capable of endangering civilians and strategic facilities cannot be justified under any circumstances.

Al Thani reiterated Doha’s commitment to diplomacy and regional stability but maintained that any threat to Qatar’s territorial integrity would be taken seriously.

The exchange highlights growing strains between Tehran and several Gulf states as tensions across the Middle East continue to rise, fuelling concerns about the risk of a wider regional conflict.
