UN Security Council Condemns Iran’s Attacks on Gulf States, Jordan
The United Nations Security Council has adopted a resolution condemning attacks by Iran on member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Jordan.
The resolution, passed on Wednesday, received 13 votes in favour, while Russia and China abstained.
Presented by Bahrain and co-sponsored by 135 countries, the resolution reaffirmed strong support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence of GCC member states and Jordan.
It strongly condemned what it described as “egregious attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran” against the Gulf countries and Jordan, stating that the actions constituted a breach of international law and posed a serious threat to international peace and security.
The council also criticised the targeting of civilian infrastructure during the attacks, noting that the strikes resulted in casualties and damage to civilian buildings.
Bahrain’s envoy to the United Nations, Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, welcomed the adoption of the resolution, saying it demonstrated the council’s commitment to maintaining international peace and security.
He expressed appreciation to UN member states that supported the measure, noting that the large number of co-sponsors reflected strong international concern over the attacks.
According to him, the broad backing by the international community highlights growing awareness of the dangers posed by the Iranian strikes on GCC states and Jordan.
