The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), has received 145 Nigerian returnees from Benghazi, Libya, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

According to a statement by the Head of NEMA’s Lagos Operations Office, Mohammed Olatunde, the returnees arrived at about 8:27 p.m. aboard an Al Buraq Airlines flight under the Assisted Voluntary Return programme.

Olatunde explained that the initiative is facilitated by IOM in partnership with the Federal Government to support the safe return and reintegration of stranded Nigerians.

He disclosed that the returnees comprised 122 adults—46 males and 76 females—alongside 29 children, including 13 males and 16 females. A total of 27 infants were also received, made up of 17 males and 10 females.

Upon arrival, officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service carried out biometric registration and documentation to ensure proper identification and streamline reintegration processes.

The returnees were provided with immediate humanitarian support, including food, potable water, medical care, and ambulance services for those in need. Additional assistance covered luggage handling, logistics support, and counselling services.

NEMA said the coordinated efforts were aimed at ensuring a safe, dignified, and seamless reception process for the returnees.
