Kuwait’s air defenses intercepted a wave of missiles and drones while a separate drone strike ignited a fire at a major oil complex in the capital on Sunday, authorities said, marking the latest escalation in attacks on critical infrastructure.

The Kuwaiti military said late Saturday that its air defense systems successfully shot down multiple incoming threats over the country. Residents in parts of Kuwait City reported loud explosions caused by interception operations.

In a statement carried by Kuwait News Agency, the army’s General Staff confirmed that “hostile missile and drone attacks” had been repelled and urged the public to follow official safety instructions. Similar incidents were reported the previous night.

Early Sunday, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation said a drone strike triggered a fire at an oil facility in the Shuwaikh area of the capital. No casualties were reported.

Emergency crews and firefighters were deployed immediately and were working to contain the blaze and assess the extent of the damage.

The latest developments come amid a series of attacks targeting key facilities across Kuwait. On Friday, drones struck the Mina al-Ahmadi refinery—one of the country’s largest—causing fires in several operational units.

Elsewhere, Kuwait’s Finance Ministry reported that a government complex in the capital sustained material damage following a drone strike, though no injuries were recorded.

The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy also said two power generation and water desalination plants were hit, resulting in significant damage without casualties.

The attacks are part of a broader surge in regional tensions, with Gulf states facing repeated drone and missile strikes linked to the ongoing confrontation involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
