El-Rufai Eyes 2027 Presidency as Ally Signals Early Preparations

A close associate of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai has indicated that the ex-governor is positioning himself for a possible presidential run in Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

The disclosure was made by Hayatudeen Lawal Makarfi during a media interview, where he suggested that preliminary steps toward the ambition are already underway.

“The journey toward the presidency has already begun,” Makarfi said, hinting at ongoing political consultations and strategy building within El-Rufai’s camp.

El-Rufai, who previously served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and completed two terms as governor of Kaduna State, remains an influential figure in Nigeria’s political landscape, known for his outspoken views on governance and reform.

Although he has yet to make an official declaration, the remarks by his ally are likely to fuel discussions and speculation ahead of the 2027 elections.
