The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has completed the second phase of its nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, recording a total of 3,748,704 registrations across the country.

In a weekly update released in Abuja, the Commission’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi, confirmed that the phase concluded on Friday, April 17, marking another milestone in preparations for the 2027 General Election.

According to Eta-Messi, the figures reflect a combination of online and in-person registrations, underscoring sustained public interest in the electoral process. Of the total number, 2,259,288 Nigerians completed their registration through the online pre-registration portal, while 1,489,416 finalised their registration physically at designated centres nationwide.

She noted that the figures remain preliminary and are subject to further verification.

With the conclusion of the registration phase, INEC is now shifting focus to the next critical stage—the public display of the Register of Voters for Claims and Objections. The exercise is scheduled to hold from April 29 to May 5 at registration centres across the country.

The Commission urged all newly registered voters to participate in the verification process by confirming the accuracy of their personal details and reporting any discrepancies. Citizens are also encouraged to flag ineligible entries, including duplicate registrations, deceased persons, and non-citizens.

The CVR exercise, which is being conducted in phases, began its first round on August 18, 2025, and ended on December 10, 2025. The second phase ran from January 5 to April 17, 2026.

INEC said the commencement date for the third phase will be announced in due course, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining a credible and transparent voter register as a foundation for free and fair elections.
