A suspected gunman was subdued by law enforcement officers shortly after the start of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday, following a security scare near the venue.

The incident occurred close to a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton, where the high-profile event was being held. Officers quickly confronted and tackled the suspect after he reportedly ran past screening points, triggering a rapid response.

A security video shared online by Donald Trump appeared to show the man fleeing as multiple law enforcement officers pursued him before taking him into custody.

Authorities identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, California, according to law enforcement officials familiar with the case.

Todd Blanche said federal charges would be filed against the suspect, while Kash Patel confirmed that investigators are analysing shell casings and other forensic evidence to determine the sequence of events.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing as authorities work to establish the suspect’s motive and assess any potential security lapses.
