The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the National Judicial Institute (NJI) have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating digital transformation and strengthening capacity across Nigeria’s judicial system.

The collaboration, which will see the establishment of a joint committee, is designed to modernise judicial operations, enhance digital adoption, and improve service delivery within the sector.

The agreement followed a courtesy visit by an NJI delegation to NITDA headquarters in Abuja. The delegation was led by the Administrator of NJI, Hon. Justice Babatunde Adeniran Adejumo (Rtd), who sought the agency’s technical expertise to advance digital reforms in the judiciary.

Speaking during the visit, NITDA Director General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, welcomed the partnership and commended the NJI leadership for its proactive approach to embracing technology.

He emphasised that emerging tools such as Artificial Intelligence are intended to support and enhance judicial processes rather than replace human roles within the system.

The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s National Digital Literacy Framework, which targets achieving 70 percent digital literacy by 2027 and 95 percent by 2030. As part of the collaboration, Abdullahi extended NITDA’s Cisco-supported online training programmes to NJI staff, building on the participation of over 54,000 civil servants nationwide.

On implementation, the NITDA chief pledged to share the agency’s digital transformation playbook to guide the judiciary’s transition. He also proposed a co-creation model that would involve deploying corps members from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to develop tailored digital solutions for the sector.

The partnership is expected to enhance productivity, streamline judicial processes, and position Nigeria’s justice system to remain competitive in an increasingly digital global economy.
