Tinubu Meets King Charles III at Buckingham Palace to Discuss Climate Change, Collaboration
President Bola Tinubu met with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday for a private discussion, marking the strengthening of ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
In a statement on Thursday, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, noted that this meeting followed their initial encounter at the COP 28 Climate Summit in Dubai last year. The latest meeting, held at the King’s request, focused on key global and regional issues, with particular emphasis on climate change.
Onanuga said the two leaders discussed strategies to address the pressing challenges of climate change ahead of the COP 29 Summit in Azerbaijan and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa.
President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to tackling climate change while maintaining its energy security objectives. He also emphasized Nigeria’s willingness to adopt global sustainability strategies, further highlighting the nation’s leadership role in Africa and the Commonwealth.
Both leaders explored innovative climate financing methods, expressing mutual interest in strengthening partnerships for a sustainable future.
