NIPR Rivers Holds May Business Meeting with Focus on Strategic Communication, Food Security

The Rivers State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) successfully held its May Business Meeting in an atmosphere of professional engagement, networking, learning, and celebration.

The meeting brought together public relations practitioners, communication professionals, and stakeholders in Rivers State who deliberated on contemporary issues shaping the profession while reinforcing the role of strategic communication in national development, PRO of the Chapter, Ayodeji Emmanuel Afelumo said in a release.

The “PR Moment” of the meeting was drawn from the just concluded NPRWeek 2026 in Kaduna, themed: “Food Security: From Policy Paper to Public Plate – The Imperative of Strategic Communication”.

The presenter, Karina Igonikon, reflected on the urgent need for clear, transparent, and people-centered communication in addressing Nigeria’s food security challenges.

She emphasized that while policies remain important, communication is the bridge that builds trust, drives behavioural change, and ensures that policies translate into practical outcomes that benefit everyday citizens.

The Chapter according to the PRO also acknowledged the significance of strategic media advocacy, crisis communication, stakeholder engagement, and the role of public relations professionals in shaping public understanding around agriculture, food systems, and sustainable development.

The meeting further highlighted the importance of communication in strengthening public confidence during periods of economic uncertainty, inflation, and food supply disruptions.

It also featured recognition for outstanding appearance and style among members. Marycynthia Nwanosike emerged the Best Dressed Female award, while the Best Dressed Male award went to Fellow Casca Ogosu.
